Facebook Introduces Nearby Friends Feature
Facebook has introduced a new optional friendfinder feature, initially available for Android and iPhone users in the US.
At the end of April 2014, Facebook announced the new friendfinder feature called Nearby Friends. The optional feature enables users to discover which friends that are nearby or on the go. When the feature is activated, users get occasional notifications when friends are nearby. Users can choose who can see if they are nearby, for example their friends, close friends or a specific friends list. The feature can be turned on and off at any time. With Nearby Friends activated, users can also choose to share a precise location with the particular friends for a set period of time. Nearby Friends is now available on Android and iPhone in the US.

In March 2014, Facebook had on average 609 million mobile daily active users worldwide, an increase of 43 percent year-over-year. The company reported total revenues of US$ 2.5 billion for the first quarter of 2014, an increase of 72 percent compared to the first quarter of 2013. Revenue from advertising was US$ 2.27 billion. Mobile advertising revenue represented approximately 59 percent of advertising revenue for the first quarter of 2014, up from roughly 30 percent of advertising revenue in the first quarter of 2013.
