The first Carminat TomTom was shipped in May 2009.
TomTom and Renault have announced that they have reached the milestone of one million Carminat TomTom in-dash navigation systems since its launch in May 2009. This marks a major industry milestone backed up by unprecedented take up rates.
Renault's launching of the first Carminat TomTom in May 2009 represented the first step in the democratisation of high quality in-dash navigation by making it accessible to the mid and entry-level car models. Since then the Carminat TomTom has enjoyed unparalleled take up rates of 48 percent, triple the industry average.
"That we have shipped one million Carminat TomTom's is clear proof of how successful the product and our partnership with Renault are. We envisage a long term strategic relationship with Renault by continuing to deliver what our customers have come to expect – the best navigation experience," says Giles Shrimpton, Managing Director, TomTom Automotive.
"Since 2009, one million Renault car owners have shown confidence in the Carminat TomTom in-dash navigation system. Today this intelligent and integrated navigation system for only € 490 offers very valuable connected services which once you have experienced the quality of, you do not want to be without," says Stephen Norman, Global Marketing & Communications Director, Renault.
TomTom continues to improve the navigation experience of Renault customers. In the six months after introduction the TomTom Carminat was strengthened with the addition of IQ Routes, TomTom's advanced routing technology, and late last year we added real time services like HD Traffic.
