Portable and on-board devices to feature NAVTEQ map coverage of Western Europe.
NAVTEQ has announced that the company will be supplying European data for the Takara brand of navigation systems.
Distributed in Europe by the French DIECI-DAT group, the Takara range includes audio, video and on-board navigation systems for the automotive industry – plus portable GPS devices. The brand is well-known for offering the latest technology and design at accessible prices, and focuses mainly on aftermarket devices.
Both the PNDs and on-board systems will feature NAVTEQ maps for Western Europe and operate on iGO My way navigation software. “We were keen to draw on NAVTEQ’s expertise in the automotive industry” explained Roger David Lellouche Takara General Manager. “This coupled with their experience in the global wireless business will be invaluable as we work towards introducing connected devices.”
Having gained popularity in France where Takara products are available from over 3,000 specialist and supermarket outlets, the brand is now also gaining a following in Italy, Spain, Germany and the Benelux countries. NAVTEQ coverage across all Western Europe is important for this effort.
“Our proven track record across all industry sectors, together with the level of support we can offer in developing the channel throughout Europe, were key factors in the decision to work with NAVTEQ,” added Bruno Bourguet, senior vice president, EMEA, Sales NAVTEQ. “We are delighted to have the opportunity to support this growing brand as it diversifies.”
