New coverage of Uruguay available.
NAVTEQ, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Nokia Corporation and one of the leading global providers of navigation maps, traffic updates, location-based services (LBS) and mobile advertising, recently announced an expansion of its quality and coverage in the Southern Cone region of South America. The expansion provides the most recent NAVTEQ map of Argentina and an Intermediate Map of Uruguay.
NAVTEQ compiles hundreds of road network elements when building country-specific maps and then utilizes local geographic analysts to verify the accuracy of the content. The NAVTEQ map of Argentina features verified coverage of major highways and secondary roads as well as multiple new cities. The Intermediate Map of Uruguay does not adhere to the same specifications or verification required for NAVTEQ’s flagship product, the NAVTEQ map, but does contain 36,337 km of road based on third-party data of the highest quality available. NAVTEQ states that the Intermediate Map of Uruguay meets the needs of customers interested in LBS and navigation applications in emerging geographic regions.
General Director of Sales – Latin America, Helder Azevedo stated that “The Southern Cone is an important economic corridor for South America. With the addition of Uruguay and expanded coverage and quality in Argentina, our customers will be able to extend the utility of navigation and LBS to match the exponential growth in devices that support these services.” NAVTEQ’s increased coverage allows end-users to navigation applications that provide a more direct route from Patagonia to Sao Paulo, Brazil and beyond.
